This was my response to the theme β€˜belonging’. During Covid, swimming in the sea offered a real sense of belonging for me - to self, to others, and to the great outdoors. It was real connection at a time when it was really needed.

I’m really interested in scale and how this can be used to show vulnerability. This is a prime example of how sketchbook work can inform potential commissions.

Having spent some time in my sketch book on city scapes, this piece evolved naturally. The limited colour palette was important in creating a strong image.

This conceptual piece arose from an interest in the mental health benefits of time spent immersed in nature. We have come to live separate to nature, but what if we could re-imagine ourselves as part of it?

The focus here is on the calming power of being outside. This illustration is evocative of hazy summer afternoons and speaks of the joyful reunion with outside space after lockdown.
